Take your time when you put the torque wrench to those four headbolts. Cometic calls for 42 ft. lbs. of torque when using their metal head gaskets. Just don't overtighten them. The last thing you want is one of the cylinder studs pulling out of the crankcase after you've put everything back together. The only reason I mention it is because it happened to me. I had to drill and retap one of the threaded holes in the crankcase after one of the studs pulled out.

Thanks.

I can put the engine back together without installing the pushrods and tubes because they're adjustable, right?

I'll have to call Velva Touch in the morning for the seals. Local Harley shop had none.

If they're quick install or easy install some call them. If they're just adjustable, they won't go in with the engine assembled.

Yes, you can reassemble everything and torque it down, and then install the adjustable pushrods.

95, they do make adjustable pushrods that don't collapse enough to clear the head and the lifter block. They have to be quick install as they are designed to collapse far enough.

Blu, you are correct. I was just assuming he had the quick install rods with the long adjustment. Just walked out to the shop and checked the package mine came in. Screamin' Eagle quick install. Traildog, take one of your adjustable pushrods apart and measure the threaded adjustment piece. It should measure about 2 1/4 inches of thread. If it does, you're good. You could also set the head on top of the jug and then see if the pushrod, adjusted all the way in, can be installed.

I've had 3 sets of quickies, Screamin Eagle, Taper-Lites, and some crap from ebay. The think I don't like about Screamin Eagls is they don't have flats far enough on the adjuster so you can hold it with a wrench, except with pliers and they destroy the threads. I like the Taper-Lites, but I messed with them so much I destroyed the threads on one. So now I have 3 Taper-Lites and one Screamin Eagle. They have different threads, but they all do the job. The other crap from eBay weren't even straight. What I don't like about all the quick install is they are fat and bang the tubes. I chased those noises for a long time before I discovered what was happening. One manufacturer, I can't think of who, make tubes to clear their quick install. Sure like to get those some day.

Mine have 2-1/2" of thread an will install with everything torqued.

BTW whats the rivet for that sticks out after the mls gaskets are installed for? To let folks know they've been changed?
