Default 84 stator issues?

I am completely redoing an 84 FLHTC. As I got into the charging system I noticed some "brittle" wiring on the stator and later realized I have a couple loose magnets as well. Its a no brainer to change this out while its apart. What do you guys suggest complete change. Can I re-glue the magnets and just replace the stator? Is there a better aftermarket upgrade? This is the early evo motor. thanks

Change for a later spec higher output one. Hopefully an expert will pass by soon with more details!

Man I would replace both the stator and the rotor if I were you.

There is nothing wrong with Harley oem stuff.

I have heard good things about cycle electric too.

Shes nearly 30 years old Bro.
The charging system dosent age well as it works hard and is not desighned for
a life expectancy of the other major parts .
Best to replace now or on the side of the road later.

I have this system I'll let go for $150,
the stator was replaced under warranty, is brand new and never installed, the regulator and rotor have about 3000 miles on them, and was tested by Thunderheart.

Can PM me if intrested.

Hey lighthouse, I'd be jumping on that deal quick if I were you. Especially for a Thunderheart system. I just redid mine and wish I could have found a dude like Schex who was getting rid of one for cheap. I tried to save some dough and did try to use the liquid tape to dress up the brittle wires, but it only lasted a couple of months. Ended up having to borrow a set of jumpers cables from the Tavern we were at and got a jump from my buddy. Not good!! Made it home though. Good luck!

My Factoid database says:

HD 29985-87 is a 32 amp alternator kit for Evo. HD 29921-95 is 38 amp but may need clearancing

When I eventually upgrade my system (still the original), I'll pick one of those.

Everyone loves the "bigger is better" attitude towards the charging system ...but if you are planning on running LEDs for lights,(especially the headlight), bigger is not needed...save your bucks for the $300 dollar headlight...lol
