Default Chain conversion

Any of you guys done a chain conversion on a bagger? belt's already started to squeak (granted, shes 14 years old, but still). I loathe the idea of a belt (always had a chain). Talked with my indy, and *supposedly* Baker makes a 1/2" front offset sprocket that'll allow me to use a flat rear (sportster), making a chain swap a <$400 project with gaskets (and thats with a high end EEK 530 chain...something like a 14500lb tensile strength)

only downside I can see is that the higher end chains dont use masterlinks (they do have a "repair" kit with a chainbreak and a link, but when its initially cut to length/assembled, the "master" link is riveted, which is part of the reason its as strong as it is)

it's something I planned on doing anyways (i like hole shots, and i know the belt aint gonna last like that)...just wanna make sure ive got the right setup going into it

Zippers makes a kit, but it includes a (kind of) shitty chain.

Bikers choice and Ultima both have kits to do what you want. Call them and they will give you the part numbers for everything but the chain. That way you can get the chain you want.

got any links? Ultima doesnt list one through their website (which is terrible, now that ive tried to go through it), and the only thing I could find on bikerschoice was same as drag specialities....just options for offset front sprockets.

"I need more power Scotty" you are hooked lol.

The .585 is just suggested like taking Viagra if your heart is healthy advertisemant, throw the instructions away and squeeze a Woods designer cam in that engine

heh, tell me about it. already getting the rolling eyes from the GF (note: not wife, so I'm still buying the damned cam). I figure with the adjustable pushrods, worst case, I dont like the W8, and it costs me ~ $40 in oil / gaskets and 2 or 3 hours of my time to put the W6 back. the only "question" will be how to "pump up" the lifters without removing them from the blocks so I can get my 0.150" again on the pushrods.

Talked to Bean today. considering about 50% of the time i'm on the bike, i'm WOT, the W8 should be a good fit. bottom end might be a *little* soft (only gonna be ~ 181psi cranking compression, where i'm at 190psi with the W6), but it'll wake up bigtime with RPMs, and should keep the powerband flowing all the way through my current 6000rpm rev limit (backed it down on his suggestion, seeing as im not making any power @ 6500 anyways). he said he'd prefer 10.5:1 with a W8, but you start getting into detonation territory with a bad tank of gas.

I've usually set them at 3 1/2 turns, run the engine and reset them to the
.150 that is targeted.

Sounds right on the W8 but it should start barking at 3500-4000 grand, if you ride alot of solo and not loaded, probaly won't be a factor on loosing alittle on the bottom. GO FOR IT!

.150" is 6 turns on the rivera taperlites. probably just start @ 4 turns and go from there.

i dont ride 2up a lot, but even with the W6, its *noticeably* more sluggish (duh). we'll soon see. if its a grand success, you'll see a W6 up for sale real soon lol.

Bikers Choice part number for the sprocket and spacer is 49-0510. 24 tooth .282 offset sprocket, plus a spacer for the rear wheel. You may need to use something wider or narrower depending on your application. You may also need the spacer from an early 5 speed tranny to get the sprocket out far enough. Hope this helps.
