I would have a quick cheap cover up fix done on it and trade it in ASAP!

You could take the chance on a cheap fix. I'm assuming you would disclose the defect to the buyer, which would be the right thing to do. Chances are they will notice anyway. You will get hit on asking price. Or do it the right way buy new or used cases. You can check ebay, prices range from 200.00 to 800.00+. Then put new rings, seals, gaskets and advertise as a rebuilt motor. Then you could raise your asking price.

No possible way you could break a correctly mounted motor with the throttle. I would stay on ebay for some used cases, OR just sell the bike as is. Most people would not buy a bike with welded cases. A rigid framed evo bike is not worth much in todays bike market...and you could easily get half of what the bike would sell for in the repair.

Well if that were the situation, then a lot of old pans and knuckles would not be on the road today. That was the prevailing thought about old heads in the 70s and 80s and is the reason why old OEM heads are in short supply today. But back then almost no one had the ability or technology to do it right so that the repair would last.

Shops such as Creekside, Headhog and Carls are the solution to problems described here.

Doesn't make my statement untrue...I wouldn't knowingly buy a bike with welded cases...Getting a set of knuckle cases repaired is one thing...I would think if you were an avid ebayer...you could get a set of used evo cases cheaper than any of the places you just named would charge.

Not disagreeing by any stretch of the means. But at least here in Kali if you dump in a new set of cases it will no longer be HD but a blue-tag Special Reconstruction model (SPCN). They put the tag on the frame and cases and HD ceases to exist, which defintely lowers market value and those who might be interested.

For me it's knowing who did the repair(s), proof of fact, asking about how it was reassembled and put in the frame (shimmed and torqued to specs to avoid a future break)
