Default Starts missing when it gets warm

s'87 FLHTC - 80ci / original carb. / shorty pipes - no mufflers (too loud but bought it in Nov. that way)

Irene has been running fine - put new plugs and wires on it / had a new stereo put in and since then after about 10-15 minutes of riding I get a miss on acceleration every once in a while. Accelerating hard makes it happen sooner. After 10 more minutes the miss starts to get worse (more often) to the point that if feels like it is only hitting on 1 cylinder. I can get it to limp home by keeping the RPM's low.

I checked the plugs - front one black / rear clean.
Getting spark / fuel.

One mechanic who I really trust told me the original carbs are junk and I should put a CV carb on it. I am cool with doing this but it does not seem like a carb issue so I wanted to throw it out to you guys in the trenches and see what advice I get.

Thanks in advance!!

The cv carb is a good idea but should be fine with carb you have. Black in front and white in back sounds like intake leak. If this is the old butterfly carb I would pull breather cover off and make sure choke is fully open when its suppose to be fully open. Black front sounds like running rich like choke is partially closed but rear being white sounds like its running lean like intake leak. Wouldn't hurt to give the carb a good cleaning as well.

Also does the bike have adjustable pushrods? you may want to check you don't have a tight pushrod.

I'm changing my wifes 89 Heritage over to cv and its not a major job, cv carb, cv carb enrichener , cv carb enrichener handle mount bracket, plastic cv carb holder/breather holder, air breather filter and cv carb crome cover the one with cut out in top.

Yep, a cv carb will do wonders over that old butterfly carb

Cant see how the stereo install has effected anything but **** does happen ?
If you have the miss only after installing new plugs and wires i would go there first. Might be a defective new plug etc. Be sure the plugs and plug gaps are correct .
Try spraying water on the coil , wires and plugs in a dark room and look for leaking current .?
Hope this helps .
