Am looking to do a brake job on my 96 Heritage, and was wondering what years of bike will the brake rotors fit on the ole girl.
At what year did they change the mount holes?
Reason i'm asking is I came across a set for a 2005 softail, that are new and were never used at a REALLY great price, as was wondering if they will fit on mine.
Thanks for any and all feedback on this. Bully
No, the 05s won't fit. That bike has ball-races as wheel bearings and the hole in the centre of those rotors is larger than on your bike, so they won't be properly located on your hubs. The bolt pattern is the same, but they may also be larger in overall diameter. If your bike has the old large diameter iron rear rotor, that is entirely different to later ones. You need rotors for tapered roller wheels, which is up to 1999.
Just as important, the calipers are different post '99, and have a narrower swept area. The later rotors are designed to run with the later style calipers and pads.

Uncle G,
I am upgrading the front calipers on my 97 RK, to 2001 calipers. I already have the mounting brackets needed, in order to mount the late model calipers. Do I need to change out the rotors as well? I was under the impression that the 97 oem rotors would work?

Your original rotors should be good unless they are scored or not true.
Raise the bike and check the rotors for runout , if ok. and the rotors are not worn or scored etc. , you should be ok. with a regular brake service procedure. Dont forget to flush the brake fluid as part of the procedure.
If the rotors are not scored or warped, check to be sure they are not worn below the minimum thickness. The minimum thickness is engraved on the face of the rotor (.185 fro the front/.205 for the back IIRC). If the thickness is above this, you should be good to go.
The front rotor is warped slightly. I get a light squeal in one spot when I roll the bike slowly. I made sure it was the rotor and not something else. So was just wondering what year rotors would fit. Looking in catalogs (J&P) there are rotors that say 92 & up as well as model year specific.
