wobble wobble
Went out on the hiway today, awsome ride. I was passing a couple sport bikes, speed was about 140 kph before letting off and pulling back in and it seemed as soon as I slowed down I got into a wicked speed wobble, I got back on the throttle and got the bike evened out, wow what a rush. What can cause a speed wobble like this?
My thoughts are this, when I was on the throttle the swing arm has pressure on it and as soon as I came off the throttle I went into the wobble and getting back on the throttle put pressure or force on the swing arm strainghtening it out, does this sound practicle? Any thoughts.

That and possible loose neck bearings on the front end, a misaligned engine/tranny set up, older worn out swingarm bushings and clevis blocks, etc, etc, etc.
I have replaced and upgraded all of the above as my bike passed 100,000 miles ( as preventative maintenance,) and today still no wobbles on her.

new S/A cleveblocs,wheel bearings,tyres good.
Its been said frequently that TruTrak or similar is the cure for the dreaded "wobble". Also changing headstock bearings was not an easy DIY job.!!
I havent done the TruTrak cure yet due to cost + shipping to UK.
I just stay below 75mph and all seems well.
Your right about the speed Bungo, stay below 75mph and all is good. That must have been a scarey job doing the kneck bearings.

Thing is u buy the bearings cheap @ $30 and that makes u feel good.
My good mate of many years who has loads of bike(non harley) and auto experience was the main man. Without his knowledge I wouldnt have attempted it and it probably is a 2 man job. Funny thing...he hated Harleys.!
Unfortunately he passed away last year with the big C. I have pics of the job but it sure wasnt easy.
In fact....for anyone buying a used Harley the kneck bearing "play" is probably one of the most important things to examine before buying.Other than the motor of course. Have a great summer! Bungo.
Amen to Stiggy's comments above, about the neck bearings and cleve blockes. I added the Tru-Track bar years ago, and that helped somewhat. I just added the CCI Swingarm retrofit kit, that replace the cleve blocks with bearings. This really improved the handling, so now no wobble wobble, even with the ole lady on the back, packed to the gills, chasin' after the big bore twin cams.
Neck bearings are easy if you run a bead of arc weld around the inner race so it drops out easily. Dremel the lower one off the triple trees......cut a slot in it and smack it with a chisel in the slot.
