Posted before with a run on problem on my 94 wide glide with Mikuni 42mm carb and want to thank spanners39 who made the first reply and was correct it was and intake leak, fixed that and it works a lot better. My only concern now is coming off idle it will spit in the carb just once most every time I open the throttle, runs fine but this is annoying. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Make sure that the accelerator pump is set at .080" clearance and it is squirting right at the needle with the engine running, also make sure the idle mixture screw is set correctly. If it still spits close it 1/8 of a turn until it stops. Hope this helps.

As a general rule: Idle jet low speed. Needle valve midrange. Main jet high speed. I had a Heritage with an S&S Super E that occasionally, mostly rarely spit at the low end. As I understand it, a cough like that can indicate a lean condition. I'd try resetting the idle mixture screw and start opening it up. I know that on the CV carb once you're out about 3 1/2 turns you wont get anything extra from it no matter how many more turns you go. On the CV, at that point, it would be time to try a bigger idle jet.
My CV was coughing, spitting, out on the interstate when I would back off of the throttle. I put a thin washer under the needle and it cleared that up. It's my experience that spitting like that is a lean thing. Better a little rich than too lean.
Thanks for the help - the pump was the problem - as soon as I reset it problem solved - be nice is I could solve all my problems that easily - many thanks....
