I have an 89 FLHS and I am putting on a true dual exhaust system. Heard pros n cons about torque cones anyone have any advice/experiences with them??? Do they really make a difference?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

While I have never tried them I gather they are for use on pipes without baffles.
I for one have tried them and didn't really like them. I felt they kept too much heat in the exhaust valve pocket. I prefer a 1/4" bolt or lolipop in the rear of the pipe.

John what exactley does the 1/4inch bolt or lolipop do?
On a sportster I tried with and with out the cones and honestly I couldn't tell the difference. I eventually got rid of the straight pipes cause I hated the lose of low end torque.

Grbrown I was planning on taking the baffles out and running the cones but I m not sure I will gain any thing I guess I will put pipes on n try w and w/out baffles then maybe try switching the cones in and see what if any gain I get. Thanks everyone!! Ride safe

They create/modify the back pressure that the engine "sees". If you put a bike with straight pipes on the dyno and makes some runs, then hold a screwdriver across the open end of the pipes you will see a positive difference in the torque numbers.
