I was concerned about the slack also, but I thought these chains last forever? The bike's only got 26k on it. I think at some point the slider moved because it wasn't properly torqued (me again) last adjustment, but I am going to keep an eye on it. Thanks all for the help!

Primary chains do not last forever!!!!

Your chain or compensator would not have any effect on your drive belt adjustment. That comes off the transmission. IF your transmission mounting bolts were loose it could affect both the chain and belt adjustment.
