I have a 1992 FXRS I bought a few months back. I noticed some oil dripping down my kickstand and took a look underneath and noticed this:
So it appears the previous owner put a filter on the crankcase breather. Looking at the left side of the bike it appears the oil from this stupid thing is now dripping on my primary and all over the place.
Is there a better (less messy) solution? I'm afraid if I take this thing off the oil is gonna drip/spray on the ground where my tire is about to roll or just go straight on the tire.
PS- I think the two plugged hoses are probable CA emissions crap the previous owner disabled.
If you want go check look for go kart or racing kart catch cans. Small little catch can made of about anything u would want. The are small and lightweight and have a vent and petcock on them so u can drain it now and than. Also vent trans or anything else to it. Those little racers turn 10,000 sometime and just have oil mist coming from them. So it more than helps with the HD. Pretty cheap also

Pretty neat little item. You still have to drain it, so often but another option. I just vent underneath, & de-grease every couple of weeks & keeps it pretty clean.

I had oil blowing all over my rear tire for a while. I ran the breather out the side and it still got all over everything. Problem was, the crank was sucking oil out the primary, and when the oil level got too high, it blew it out the breather and onto my tire. Got the problem solved so the primary oil stays in the primary and the crank oil stays in the crank. Now I have NO breather issues. Maybe you want to see why it's blowing so much oil?
Originally the Harley Factory set up had the breather line to the Air Filter. One of the reasons the oil comes out the Breather is because the oil level is too high. Over filling the oil tank will result in excess oil out the breather. This caused the oil to run out and on the Chrome Cam Cover. Many routed the line under the frame ending with a filter. This fixed the "Oil on the Cam" problem, but made an oil spot on the ground. Some have used the "Engine Breather Oil Collector", like the one Here on J&P.
I, myself, just used the filter on the line under the transmission. Good Luck.
