Not to start a which oil is better type thread, but I would like some input from wiser minds as to if it makes much a difference putting higher quality plug wires on an almost stockish 1998 EVO? I figure after 14 years and 30,000 miles that it may be time to swap them out. Opinions?
Plug wires will not add anything to a motor's performance. Plug wires eventually will go bad, and that will detract from the performance. I replaced the ones on our bikes with Magnecor's a couple years ago. I got them drop shipped from cyberauto.com. They won't list them, but if you call them up, they'll fix you up.
As the good Dr implied, plug wires will not give you more horsepower, better gas mileage or any of the other claims that are often made. But if you are looking for replacement, I have always used the Taylor Spiro-Pro plug wires, Good quality silicone jackets and the boots are molded to the wire jackets for better durability and less chance of separating if you pull on them wrong. I have them on my FXRD and have no radio interference. A dab of dielectric grease in the boots and they should last many thousands of miles for you.
Thanks for the input. Wasn't looking for improved performance from wires. They look fine, no cracks, and boots are solid. I was just wondering whether time and wear may be taking their toll. I think I'll let sleeping wires lie.

The wires are old enough to be replaced . Try spraying them with water and then check for arcing at night , you will probably see a small lightshow.
Go to any auto parts shop and ask for the best they have from a bulk roll.
They will cut to your required length and supply the boots etc. Put together a set yourself and dont forget to clean the coil connectors if corroded.
Use dielectric grease at the connectors to prevent future corrosion.
