lolipop baffles....hmmm....that's a new one....will google it!

I have no smoke on start up....even after a week of no use....would that not suggest the seals are ok?

This EVO runs like a swiss watch....really do not want to mess with it unless absolutely necessary.

I am really just fussing a bit...it is not much of an issue. More that I wanted to get a handle on how MUCH was normal. Joined the local HOG chapter, and they are all great folks....but mostly newer bikes...My King stands out....IN A GOOD WAY! But not much help in the brain picking department. At least not yet...probably just need to meet the right person. I am told there are other EVO owners in the group....maybe they only come out at night/full moon....

Evos love to puke oil after sitting for a bit , its just the way they are.
The Kotex trick works but you can use a bit of open cell foam also and clean it every so often , the automotive industry has been doing this for years.
If your fussin about it just reroute the hose out the bottom of the bike and let it vent out to the ground .?

Your going to hear the exposed hose will pull in dirt or moisture, that engine huffs enough to blow the crap out before it can pull all the way to the heads. Few choices but I know what I've been running for the last 7 years and offends the treehuggers.

PS: If you run synthetic oil, you will have to use the extra absorbant maxi-pads, Syn3 is too slick for normal pads
Amsoil Maxi pads work GREAT!!

Hey....would re-routing the hose have any performance issues?...apparently not judging on the replies.

Why even think about routing it into the air cleaner if its not necessary?....That is something I will do ASAP....even if I dont have a lot of oil building up...seems it just makes sense.

Kind of like isolating the primary on a Shovelhead.

Thanks!

Oh no, a which maxi pad is best for synthetic oil thread is possible!

Lolly pops are for drag pipes, if you have drag pipes on a stock Evo in a heavy bagger, more help than repairing 90's EPA garbage is needed and should expect riding in the back alot trying to catch up.

What is normal, it is common for a Evo to bleed out the air cleaner, the system is inefficient by design. Umbrella seals get hard with heat and age that causes more bleeding, slight cylinder ring blow by will push more oil into the air cleaner because the system is ineffecient to start with.
Many, many redkneck engineered repairs from running the hose under the fuel tank with a filter on it releasing the vapors and lets the oil run back to the engine when shut off. Systems that catch the oil and drain back to the oil fill spout, chrome ones have a extra port, this bleeding issue has had riding Einsteins laying awake at night for years.

The catch can is the most professional looking system and costly, If it doesn't bother you then just consider the RK is on the rag and wipe it off after riding her.

No perfomance issues, early automotive EPA garbage carried over to HD for vapor reburn and a poor attempt with the existing vapor hose entering below a vacume source which is the carb

Every bike I have owned has been different. I have always rerouted the house to the rear of the bike. On occasion I would get e odd drip but only after some long hard miles.
There are several reasons that you will see "too much oil venting" umbrela valves as Bagger mentioned are a common cause as well the 87-92 years could be a issue due to a variety of problems caused by poor casting of the cases etc.
Donny Petersen covers a lot of these issues in his book and IMHO is a must read for anyone that really wants to get to know the EVO
