Default tach wiring help!

posted in the softail section but haven't had a response....

alright guys I just put a tach on my softail that I found in my dads shop. I mounted it in place of where the horn goes, but my question is what wires do I connect to it? I have a twin fire coil, but I cant figure out which is the signal wire.... little help! attached is a picture of it, you can kinda see it.....

thanks,

Barnabie

What's a "twin fire" coil? You mean only one plug fires at a time? From the 3 terminals, I think that's what you have. To hook up a conventional HD tach, which is expecting a waste spark (both plugs fire at the same time) coil, you're going to have to get or make some type of adapter, then wire it to the two coil negatives and your tach to the adapter. I'm sure someone makes that part.

Yep, thats right, you have B+, Gnd, and C- connections for the waste spark coil. B+ is battery, Gnd is 2ndry Gnd, and c- is Primary ground or the trigger for your coil that fires both plugs at the same time, 1 cylinder under pressure the other exhausting.
