Default Bigbore kits ?

I've been reading here & other places about the 85in Big Bore kits ,Even PM'ed a few members here on there builds . So My questions is Has anyone used The HRhm ?? Axell 85 in bolt on Kit ? the kit comes with new Jugs , pistons & wriest pins , comect gaskets , No case boreing needed , Just have to get a head job , I'am the third owner of my 94 softie , seconded owned said he just changed the oil & tires ,I could only find so much on what the first owner did ,Via HD dealer where he bought it & traded it in where second owner bought it , But it had the Red rocker cover gaskets whitch are after market & at a bit over 66k now she stills runs & pulls hard for a stock 80in ,base gasket rear is just weeping , so I plan on taking her apart after Dec , well any ideas or words on the Axell kit

I too have talked with others doing the 85" kit and most are happy, but it seems to be not much return horsepower per dollar-wise. A stroker kit is more bang for the buck.

Bear in mind that an Evo is actually around 83", the 85" kits are essentially max rebore size, with higher than stock CR. So they don't give much increase in capacity, the main benefit coming from that extra CR.

Take a look at Hillside's website, as I recall them saying they can port heads and supply a kit with modern cam and pistons that give a good performance boost. Years ago I had a stroker kit fitting in my original engine, but Scott from Hillside reckons they can give us similar performance benefits without stroking now.

I ALSO have asked the same question in this forum. From the masses and my mechanic, the general consensus is that there's not much gain for the dollar and you're putting Ol Reliable Evo under stress that it wasn't designed to handle. Im in the middle of head porting and a top end and I asked if I should get the SE high compression pistons since it was apart already and my guy gave me a forceful no. It would be noisy among other things. My 2 cents for what its worth, good luck

With 66k on the clock there is a risk that significantly beefing up top end performance will knock out the bottom end in no time!

When I had my stroker kit installed the builder told me he didn't include servicing the rod bearings, as they differ greatly between bikes. Having dismantled my crank he measured up and found both rod bearings out of round, so honed them and fitted over-size rollers. Smooth as silk after that!

I've determined that the amount of money required to increase performance to expectations, increases geometrically with every new horsepower goal.

Don't waste your money on the 85 kit. Basically its a rip off.

so basically what you all are saying is that the best bet is to put in a cam and a little head work. then leave it at that if you want reliable performance.

Throw in a good exhaust, also & put a big smile on your face!

Yes, but do that as a known package, with porting, CR and cam all matched, with exhaust, hence my earlier suggestion to contact a tuning shop like Hillside. You may have one close by who can advise you and do what needs to be done.
