Default Melting Goo

Bke still runs great but I noticed light brown goo coming from cable coming from points or ignition cover. Removed cover and some sort of electronic cap or resister is melting. With that said after I changed the cam she ran very hot so I put the Power Commander III in and she cooled way down. Dont know if this is something new going on or damage from running too hot. I will keep an eye on it but plan to take a trip to Talihina this weekend. Any info out there?

That is your ignition pickup. These melt from a few causes. After market pipes too close to the nose cone, heat build up from insufficient cam or breather clearance, or just the engine running too warm. They will also self destruct from old age, too much resistance in the ignition circuit will turn the pickup sensor into mini toasters and melt the potting material which is used to wick the heat out of it. Once this is all gone the sensor will fail shortly there after. Hope this helps.

That would be the best course of action.

Default Did the work, Thx

Replaced the sensor, what a project they put the electrical connection under the cross member and have it clipped with a stud. It was like building a ship in a bottle. Nothing is ever easy, Thank you for the advise I now has some peice of mind less $200. What will cause the extra resistence you spoke of. I did order new spark plug cables. Thx again...

Coil, wiring, ignition module can be the culprit if it wasn't just an old sensor. Oh yeah overcharging can affect it as well.
