Local area authorities also have a tendency to 'grit' the roads when the weather forecast is bad. This 'grit' contains salt. An added bonus is that you can wash and clean the salt off, put the bike away in the bubble wet, open the vent and in 20 minutes or so the bike is dry. Job done! I couldn't do without one personally.
The only motorcycle built with the crap British climate in mind of course is Triumph. I had a couple of them over the years but do you know what? I get so much more enjoyment on the Harley than I ever did on the Triumphs. (Just that the Harley doesn't quite go round corners on twisty country lanes so much but it is a small price to pay).
I understand completely. The grit somehow got under the clear coating of my alloy vehicle rims and spiderweb'd each of them. Not one scratch on the vehicle rims but they looked horrible. Honda replaced all 4 rims under warranty upon returning back to Virginia. Two winters in Illinois with harsh winters with no impact and the first winter driving through the grit on the roads in the U.K. destroyed the finish.
$ USD 300 ? For that you can nail up a fair bit of insulation and sheathing in an old garage and the garage won't deteriorate / depreciate like "bike stuff". Improving your garage is a capital investment. The bubble is a purchase. "Big difference" !
I don't disagree with the capital investment but when you move every couple years due to work reassignments and living in rental housing, this is another option. My bike was shipped as part of our household effects, so that was ~800 lbs less my wife could ship 😀 of our 7,200 lb allowance. 8 years now with the bubble at 4 different locations and the only additional cost was a replacement fan due to damage during one move. No rips, tears, or malfunctions on the bubble itself and it only weighs ~20 lbs with a setup time of 10 minutes.
