I just picked up the kit from HD, which includes the spring and the clip for $6.?? I didn't know about the clip, which I probably screwed forcing the screw to come out.
Where exactly does the clip go? Does it go on the adjusting screw after the spring, then screw into the housing?
Put the spring on the adjusting screw and screw it into the housing, on the inside, put the friction shoe on the screw, then the clip on top in groove.

Are you saying I need to open up the housing for the friction shoe and clip?

Appreciate the info by the way... and Merry Xmas.
I made a mistake in my post, on the inside, the clip goes on the adjusting screw first, then the shoe just sits on top, there's a hole in the shoe to locate it on the screw.
Loosen the two throttle cable adjusters all the way, remove the screws holding the housing together, you should be able to drop the bottom part of the housing enough to get the job done, if not enough room, remove the cables from the handgrip, don't loose the little brass anchors.
Your shoe and the broken tip of the old adjusting screw with the old clip should be sitting in the housing.
Not really. Unless you really crank it down, you just rotate the throttle forward as normal to decelerate. The only thing you are defeating is the snap back.
Lost my spring a couple of years back, went to hd winona,mn. they talked to me like I was a idiot! Acutually I believe I had a leaf spring pushing against the shoe, but they had no such part. Not by far my favorite hd dealer!! Enjoy it on long flat road rides.

Okay, so the last thing on top is the shoe, and the clip is underneath it.
