hi, am needing some input, anyone know about the primary chain on my evolution?
the shoe is just about adjusted up as far as it can go. I wanted to replace the shoe and primary chain, a person at Harley in parts sales told me to take a link out of the chain. my though was to just replace it as I wanted a price on the new one, am I right? I wouldn't even do that to my o-ring drive chain....?

I would replace the chain.
I have never heard of taking a link out of a primary chain.

No, you replace the chain and the pad thing. There's no master link in those chains, so you would have to find one first. They do exist, but they are pretty uncommon and while people used to do that 30 years ago, those people were generally at the bottom of the sub-culture, if you know what I mean, and it was always interesting to hear of their chain spitting out in front of them at a stop light.

I haven't heard of that either.

Take a close look at the teeth on the compensator and if they are sharp to the touch, replace that as well as the chain. The clutch sprocket should be fine, as it has more teeth, to spread wear.

"Pull a link out?" That right there is why I avoid dealers. Dude get a new chain and adjuster shoe. Good advice on the compensator teeth also. How many miles on it?
