Got lazy last summer and purchased a bearing packer to do the boat trailer wheel bearings. By the time I was done, the packer had about a 1/2 tube of grease stuck in it and my hands were still greasy from loading and unloading the thing. Also noted the bearings never really loaded up everytwhere with grease so ended up hand packing to finish them up. I am not sure i will ever try that thing again.....Hand Packing Works Best
The store bought greaser may me a little over kill for 4 bearings. I simple take a golf ball dollop in my left palm. Then I take the large end of the tapered bearing and holding it in the right hand shear off a dab couple times till it oozes up the top and rotate it slightly and repeat. You want the bearing packed. We had a discussion not long ago. If you have not checked lately, I would check the end play before greasing with a dial indicator.

That's what I end up doing as well. I always start with the tool, but end up finishing by hand. (Better stop there...it's starting to sound like a bad date)...
