Default Should I pull the trigger?

Good Morning Guys,

I haven't posted in a while since I got my first EVO but I read here constantly and I am asking your opinion. I lost my 97 FLHR to my X. Stupid me left it in her name and now she is being difficult. But I got my eyes on this one...https://cleveland.craigslist.org/mcy/4394749101.html

I've been texting the guy all morning and he says he has receipts for everything. Has provided me a wealth of info. I'm currently going over my finances before I make a trip to see it and fall in love. What are your guys thoughts? Thanks again

Looks like you're trusting a guy on craigslist that a "Harley guy" did a full engine rebuild correctly. IMO, the best thing about an Evo is that HD made a great engine and it runs for a long time. When you start swapping out cases and pistons, clutches and whatever else is aftermarket, you are getting pretty far away from what the Evo really is. Shaved heads and a valve job, etc....all looks a little scary unless you are looking at the paperwork, the flowbench test, etc. I guess what I'd do is keep looking for an Evo that is less molested. Just my .02 and it's barely worth those two cents.

+1 on that. The older the bike (or car) is, the more stock I want it to be. That bike might have had a really hard life accounting for all of the modifications made. When looking at thing 25 years old or more, I want unmolested, not rode hard and put away wet. My 2 cents, good luck with getting a new ride.

I sort of felt the same way. I'm not even sure if it is worth the two hour drive to take a look at it but I needed to hear it from someone else. Thank you for the response.

I agree with everyone else, keep looking. The Ultima cases and that hideous mural on the fairing is enough to scare me away. Like others have said, find you nice unmolested Evo.

Nothing a bottle of Seafoam, a rag, and a little elbow grease couldn't buff out...wait a minute.

No wolves? Instant deal breaker for me.

All kidding aside though I think it might be a bit on the high side price range. I'd go in figuring spending money just to see what has actually been done, and from what I understand in the add a shop did it so that may not be that bad.

Now if it wasn't 2 hours away and the guy would come down on the price and it's something you want I don't think it would be that bad, but I wouldn't drive 2 hours just to see on a questionable bike.

if you like the bike, i would find out who did the motor work. talk to that guy about the work done. alot of times people will tell the mechanic things they won't tell anybody else!!

me personally i would keep looking, it sounds to me anyway, that the owner wanted to make a nice older cruiser bike into a new hot rod bike. this usually turns out bad.
