don't get me wrong, i'm all for a few modifications if you need some extra power. exhaust, air cleaners, maybe even a little cam if needed, but there is a point of deminishing returns. my background is aircooled vw's and i've built many motors for them. had quite a few drag car vw's. there comes a point when you are increasing power and decreasing reliability without any real world gains.

case in point, local guy has an older evo electraglide. he spent a little over 9 grand having the motor built (stroker now), all new everything, and a 6 speed transmission put in. the bike runs great now, problem is in town he has to be real careful due to heat. also low speed cruising (town stuff) the motor is a little tempermental and not really smooth. now out on the highway it runs fantastic IF you want to run 80-85mph. but then the MPG is very bad. the motor was dyno tuned with a wideband and the jetting is spot on. we rode with another guy with a new streetglide (103ci i believe) and the poor electraglide still had a hard time keeping up.

this guy spent a lot of $$ to make his bike less reliable, harder to ride, and to top it off, the guy never rides over 70mph because he doesn't like to ride fast!

from what i've seen there is cheap, fast, reliable. you can only have 2 so choose wisely. MOST people go cheap and fast, or cheap and reliable.

If you are going for more power cheap is a bad thing to think about.
My first priority is always reliability.

For me reliability is top of the list ...back in the day a mate had a 93 stroker shovelhead...when it went it was fast, but it was so unreliable, in the end we got tired of having our rides being cut short cos of him breaking down all the time. His buddy did the motor for him on the cheap !!! this was all before the cell phone days so breaking down on the side of the road was a real PITA.

I would not pull the trigger on this bike. What happened to the original cases? Does he still have them? I know some aftermarket cases are stronger and better than stock but , in my opinion, it is not a Harley anymore. Non factory cases would be a deal breaker for me. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with the others, there are better bikes. Here is an example, yes it needs work, but with a little work it could be good to go. I bet this one could be had for $5000.
