Default Timing calrification

Can someone explain this?

Traildogs book only shows 2 dots for 20 deg BTDC for a 97 FLSTC

My book shows 1 dot for 35 deg BTDC (that one is labeled domestic)
and 2 dots for 20 deg BTDC (that one is labeled HDI) for a 95 FLSTC

My questions are as follows
1) Why are they different?
2) What is HDI?
3) Which one am I supposed to use?

I am guessing that I should use the one labeled domestic.

the motor company made Calif flywheels and then put them into the production bikes 49 states money saving idea - if he does not have an aftermarket ignition he will have to install a self made DOT or dollar sign on the flywheel in the 35 location -- aftermarket ignitions to eliminate all the bull with those wheels came along, and timing is set on the TDC mark and it is easy to to find on any of them as they are all the same TDC is TDC on any engine

I just read through my Dyna S ignition instructions and it said to use my advance timing marks.

Which one am I supposed to use?

That's because a dyna s is a mechanical advance, so you strobe max timing.

That would be the 35 deg BTDC mark correct?

dyna S - set the wheels on the TDC front cylinder make sure its the front look into the plug hole of the rear and the intake valve is open - you can use a piece of 3/8 oil hose put it on the plug opening and blow into it, the cylinder if you can feel resistance your on compression rear turn the motor 180

if you have TDC front - turn the motor back wards clockwise from the 12 oclock location at around 2 or 3 oclock you will get a symbol that will be the max timing mark - now with the front plug connected to the coil, ignition on turn the dyna trigger counter clockwise all the way then clockwise all the while looking at the plug when it sparks your close enough - tighten the stay screws - check with the light
