Checked bike based on grbrowns suggestions...when I turned on the ignition with out starting, everything worked. Started bike let it run for awhile, everything worked for a short time then stopped (headlights continued to stay on). Oh, the battery is brand new 500cca battery. So from what i'm reading, its probably the stator? So my next question, is this a job that's easy for someone with a little mechanical experience?
Again, thanks for any help I can get on this
Before you just decide it is the stator grab a multi meter and run through Dr Hess's sticky about checking your charging system.
It is much less expensive to do the checks and find out what is wrong than guessing and throwing parts at the problem.
I have a box of switches that have done odd things on my old wide glide. The last one is acting up and since its wired to not have a day time running light and a separate postiton for lights it will kill the engine momentarily when switching the positions. Others have lost lights after everything has ran for time to build a little heat in the switch
For what it's worth...followed all the great advice and found I had a faulty ground wire...replaced it...good as new! Glad I didn't pull the stator! Thanks for all the advice!
