Default fuel guage issue

Hi guys
Been doing some pre trouble shooting before I dive in. On my 89 flhtp if I have a full tank of gas the gas gauge shows full like normal and after approximately 70 km off the full tank the gauge seems to go down to 3/4 and starts to bounce a bit below 3/4 then starts to head to empty and back up to 3/4 again. After a few more kilometers are gone by the gauge goes to empty and stays there. All this is done while traveling steady on the hiway.
Any thoughts on this before I start in.
Thanks
Lynn

Sender is dirty or broken. Take it out of the tank and inspect it.

Better to have a completely full tank in storage.

For storing add some Seafoam (not a full bottle) and fill the tank with gas. In the spring you will be in good shape. This is what I do with my motorhome in the late fall (but I add a few bottles). I do start the generator every few weeks but, the gas stays good and everything works in spring.

Pulled the scensor and it was corroded and only seemed to contact at full. After some fiddling the contact is worse and seems to have some play so reviving is a no go. Looks like the old girl will get a replacement.
Thanks

Ok I've been doing some searching but can't nail down a fuel sending unit. Can you guys tell me what year to year of flht will fit my bike as well as other models that may fit? This would be a great help.
Thanks

I think they are NLA. You'll have to find the part number and call around to try to find a dealer that has one.
