I have never ran a filter nor do I intend to. That vent goes one way. There are arguments for and against it but I always run them open. One less filter to clean or worry about. For the S&S I routed mine the same with an old S&S carb I had but I used the flexible hose that comes with the S&S and cut it. I then bought a plastic T fitting from ACE and used that to route it to the bottom. Did the same thing and was of course very cheap. Ran it that way for years. Nothing got sucked back in to blow up my motor!! Then on the breather plate I plugged the hole with a bolt and LOTS of locktite.
I agree. I just tee'd the hoses coming off the breather bolts to a single hose right under the carb, ran the single hose between the jugs and then down between the inner primary and motor, no filter.
The oil vapor/mist coming out of the hose is so minimal, there is little to no chance it would ever cause any issues. Its not like its going to "dump" oil out at any given moment.
Only argument I ever heard for a filter or screen even remotely valid was that someone said a dirt dobber or something crawled in there and plugged the hose. That would have to be a 1/1,000,00 chance, given the environment they would be going into.
You could just put some screen or mesh over/in the hose end if this concerns you at all.

Also just like when I check my tail light, head light, brake lights, tires etc you can easily put your hand under that line and feel the air coming out. Easy enough for me. Just a good every now and then check.
OH sheite freaking Dirt dobers everywhere here, they even clog up my elec outlets in the garage, so That did cross my mind. Im finished with the breather project and thanks to all for the info.
S&S already had the head nipples so I made my own piping with a brass tee for about$15.
I made a large arch to drain back to engine then Tee under the tank ty wraped to frame going behind tranny and out the right side by exhaust. Pretty much made it all disappear nice and clean. My S&S did not like hot oil mixed with gas, aint no 2 stroke. Less carbon build up on pistons too...

Why not?
S&S sells a tube to do exactly that (comes stock with a new carb) so why would it upset your carb.

Oil in gas is for 2 stroke engines. Carb is constantly sucking hot air and dirty oil. Hot air does not promote performance, oil does help carbon build up and promote detonation in my +10-1 CR. Dirty oil in a combustion chamber wears out the engine. I don't like diluting my high octane with oil. Besides that I hate the EPA. S&S pipes it to the carb because EPA makes them do it.
Also, Heat is an engine killer, say it's 90* outside and the heads are 225*, the Rebreather carb is sucking in the 225*with the 90* ambient, engine not happy, makes for easy PINGING and hotter engine.
Nice use of a cowbell, very innovative. Thanks.. Like that vintage picture of you on the mini bike. I had one just like that when I was 8 and had bike fever ever since.
