Default Cylinder stud question

Apparently in '85 they changed the design of the cylinder studs.
Early '85 had a male/female threads and the late '85 they changed to the male/male threads.

My question is can you simply replace the early '85 with the later studs?

Ok I found out that late '85 studs are the same all the way through the life of the EVO but the head bolts are different.

Can anybody tell me why?

the first design was like all first design a guess - it had actual bolts and very thick washers under the 12 point bolts on all 4 locations - the studs were different than the later ones in that they were male threaded on both ends and of course they installed them upside down for the first 7 or 8 years -

the confusion continues

Can I just get head bolts that will fit my '95 for it?
They have the bolt and washer combined.
