Took my '88 fxsts out today to warm it up to change oil and she died on me about 1/2 mile from house. Looked to be out of gas (I know) so had the boy bring me some gas. Got her started went back to the house, running rough still. Decided to ride it up to the gas station, on the way she died and would not start. Bike is cranking over fine, getting gas (at least at carb) not getting any fire at plugs. I picked this bike up recently, got a great deal on it and all it needed was a clutch. Has ran great up until now. I have power at both sides of the coil and coil ground seems ok. Any suggestions to help me short cut some diagnostics?

Thanks all
If no fire at pluggs you need to check the ign. system.
Be sure you have no fire at plugs or just bad plugs.
Determine which .?
Sounds like the sensor under the cam cover to me. If you have power at the coil the sensor may not be triggering the coil. They do go bad and generally quit after warming up.
I did forget to mention I just installed a new ignition switch, no issues though, lights work cranks when it should etc... Dont think its carb issue, have fuel coming through jet when you twist the throttle and its a S and S Super E. I will replace plugs but find it hard to believe they both failed at the same time. Sensor under cam cover sounds like a possibility. How do you check the coil for output?
It's under the ignition cover. Next to your right foot, in the cone. There are tests in the book. If, after pulling the cover, you see black goo, that's the problem. If no black goo, it could still be bad.
