Default I love my EVO

Hi all. I have owned my 99 Softail Custom for 5 years now. It had 17,000 on it when I got it and now 43,000. I am 73 years old so do not ride a lot. Yesterday I took a 140 mile ride to meet some buddies for lunch. I do not do a lot of interstate riding but yesterday it was almost all I did. This bike for being all stock except for drag pipes and rejetted runs very well up to about 75 before the vibes start to come in. I do have lollipops in the pipes and it seems to help some as it pulls strong all the way from idle. I can feel no dead spots anywhere. I just smiled all the way as I watched the scenery go by and listened to those drag pipes talking to me. It handles great and just goes where you point it.
I have had to do a few things to it but all done in my own garage with my own hands. I replace the cam brg. and put in adjustable push rods at about 23,000 just for piece of mind. I have replaced one regulator and one stator and rejetted the carb. Other than that it is just normal maintenance. I have owned a few bikes over the years but this one just stands alone as the most fun to ride bike I have ever been on. I hope to ride it until I can no longer swing my leg over it. Long live the FXST's and C's. with EVO's.

Know what ya mean Jim. Went to the mountains yesterday just to cruze. 7 hours and 190 mi later still had a smile on my face. Love my 17 yr old WG and no other bike [metric] can give you that feeling. Riding an ole classic puts you in a class of your own.

Retirement has its rewards. When I am not riding I can fly with my grandson. Just a little Cherokee 150 but loads of fun. I am so blessed.

I know exactly what you mean Jim. My old dresser has nearly 140,000 miles on it, but still runs good. I'm always having to tighten, replace, or adjust something, but the old bike still feels great when I do get out and ride it. When I was younger, I didn't really like riding the Interstate, but as I've gotten older, I kinda like setting the cruise and ridin' the slab. My wife has an '89 FXSTC that we bought new in St. Pete, Fl. Still looks and runs great.

My last bike was a 99 FXSTC w/a fatboy front fender on it color matched and a 16 inch Thunder-Star front wheel as well as a chrome rear wheel along with V-Thunder-3010 cam. Didn't think it rode much different than a pan.
Rode my buddies glide and never looked back.
Con-f-in-grats on still ridin' too!!
I am impressed..

I like your post. My 1998 Softail Custom just purrs so nice at 65mph that I also get that goofy grin. 70 is okay but a little slower seems better, for both the bike and me. The rocker gaskets sprayed oil over my pants for a while so I had them replaced, with the stator and rotor, but that is the only extra maintenance other than the usual. It has a nice factory custom paint job, 44 out of 100. Ride on.

That's because you're in the EVO section. Even though we aren't "special" as some have noted.

Not much bickering here.

And, I agree as well. Good post and ride safe "old timer." 😊

Hats off to you for still getting on the bike and riding! I'm about 10 years younger and hope to have that same feeling for riding in 10 years. Ride on brother!
