Stator conection
I have a problem with the stator connecter where it goes into the primary case. If I try to push the connecter on it pushes the other end into the primary case. At the moment I have two small screws holding onto it. Any suggestions. Bike is 85 wide glide. hope someone can help.
My fix was to take an X-Acto knife and a small pick, pare a bit of the plastic off the stator plug, then insert the pick through the stator plug to hold the female terminals before snapping in the male voltage regulator plug. I made certain the female terminals where snug before doing this by using a pair of small needle nose pliers to squeeze the metal together.
Prior to the home fix, I would go through batteries every two years. The present battery has been in the bike for 8 years.
As another posted, use caution when doing oil filter changes. The design is one of the worst ideas The MoCo could have thought of for this.

G'day mate!
It is important to have a complete and solid connection. Otherwise the plug will arc and burn the rubber causing it to harden and also burn the metal. a good connection will then be almost impossible. Get yourself one of clips that keep the plug in place also.
Good luck.

My solution is a bit longer and a lot more effort, but then you are done with it forever..
I go into the stator and remove the rubber completely and solder in an 8 inch pigtail to the stator. I run this out the hole of the case and silicone it closed inside and out.
I then use waterproof connectors to connect to the regulator. No looseness ever.
I've been doing this to my shovel for over 25 years now and it works perfectly..
Griz

Check the connections in the case to see if rubber getting soft and if connectors look bad or discolored, once they go you are quarrantied a problem. If you get the 32 amp upgrade kit it has the case plug that extends above the case.
