start over - unadjust the cable all the way in - loose - than the nut in the center of the clutch hub crack the nut counterclockwise than turn the allen counterclockwise till its also loose so you can turn with your fingers - than using your fingers turn it clockwise till it stops than back it off counterclockwise 1/8 of a turn and lock the nut -

note make sure the allen stays put and does not turn when you tighten the nut - paint a timing mark if you have to

than expand the cable adjustment till the clutch lever has just a small amount of play in the lever in its perch

in one week of riding you will need to do it again once the clutch discs are bedded in with the ATF Dextron 3 you Should have used as a primary oil

Ok from the beginning step by step what exactly did you do?

Somewhere you forgot a piece or did something wrong and the only way to fix it is to start all over and do it again slowly.

This may be a stupid question but did you put the snap ring back on?

This is how I do it. Much like John above. I loosen clutch cable until lever just hits handle. The I loosen lock nut on clutch. Then turn in adjuster until you feel movement at the lever. It doesn't hurt to do this more than once. Then when you have so the lever just moves with it at the handlebar back off adjust 1/2 turn. Some back it off a hole turn but I prefer to use 1/2. Then tighten lock nut while holding adjuster with allen wrench. Then adjust lever with cable adjuster. 1/8 recommended play.

Also make sure that when you bottom out the allen, it's the allen bottoming and not the lock nut hitting the adjuster. Start with the lock nut all the way to the top of the allen to avoid that.

ok thanks for the help. will try what John and Fatty said to try. yes the snap ring did stay on, i did double checked that. i did look at the throwout bearing, i can see all the bearings, so they are still in there. just weird like i said it did have the extra barnett clutch plate in it. never had a problem adjusting it. now put stock number of clutch plates in it because i didnt know there was the extra plate in it. and nothing. been told to get it in 5th gear and it should be hard to spin the rear wheel when off the ground. and if a it spins easy it could be the shaft. so will try what John and Fatty said first, will keep you updated on results. thank s again
