pushrod moves freely, put the bike in all the gears and could spin the rear wheel fairly easy.since i did have 9 plates in it before can i buy just one plate and put it in?. would think that would'nt matter because you still have to adjust. can the throw out bearing still be bad even tho it looks ok?

when you installed the pressure plate did you line it up so it will slide all the way in. also make sure the last plate didn't fall out that will keep it from working.

You are missing a plate or clutch disc. Check the height and compare it to the figure in your service manual !!!

Yes older barnette extra disk kits replace the spring plate have you re installed the spring plate? If not you will need an additional steel and a friction disk...

I just reread that. Did you add the spring plate back that was removed with the install of the extra plate kit? As above you need to score another steel and friction plate. This will bring it back to thickness\height spec.

ok first thanks to all that replied. well i pulled my head out of my***. i figured out the problem. i had the extra plate kit in the bike 9 plates. i went back to the stock 8 plates. well i did not have ,or see it. but on stock plates there is a middle spring plate. so i'm just going to try to buy just one new friction plate, or put the best used one back in with the extra steel plate. that should do it. no wonder it would'nt adjust. live and learn.
