Question Clutch Adjustment Help

Well here is the situation. I adjusted the clutch the way I have always done on my Limited and took it out for a test drive. The clutch engages when the clutch lever is way out and the clutch slips in 5th and 6th gears. So, obviously the clutch is not fully engaged.

Here is my procedure on a cold engine:
1. Collapse the adjuster on the cable sleeve all the way.
2. Turn the clutch adjuster screw in until it lightly seats.
3. Back out the screw a little over a half turn.
4. Tighten the jam nut while preventing the adjustment screw from turning.
5. Adjust cable free play at the lever using a nickel. Results in about a 1/16”-1/8” free play.
6. Lock the jam nut on the adjuster.

So WTF did I do wrong?

Didja reseat the ball/ramp assembly by squeezing the lever about 3 times prior to doing the cable adjustment and after the basket was adjusted?

Yeah, I believe I did. Just in case though, if I forgot that step, would that result in my dilemma?

Yes the clutch was cool.

Should I back out the clutch adjustment screw a full turn?

Just loosen the adjuster 1/2 -3/4 turn and go for a spin. If you like it, leave it.

My best guess is that the adjuster screw moved back in when you tightend the lock nut.
I like 3/4 turn out.

I just replacd my fluids and when I did the adjustments for my clutch, I thought I would try backing off a 1/2 turn versus 3/4 quarters of a turn as I usually do. Thought I read something about that here somewhere. Anyways on the way to work the next morning in 6th gear if I hit the throttle my clutch would slip for awhile then engage. Got home re-adjusted the nut for 3/4 turn and everything was fine again.
Got me to thinking what a full turn would give me.
