Default Clutch adjustment

So, I changed out all fluids for the season and adjusted the clutch while I had the cover off. Pretty confident I did it correctly. Been wrenching for a lot for years, however never did a clutch adjustment. Seemed pretty straight forward.

So now I notice the clutch engages right at the very end the lever travel. Don't remember it being that close to the end of the lever. There is no signs or feeling that it's slipping but am wondering if the clutch is really fully engaging.

Is this where the clutch should engage?

If I wanted it to engage sooner when releasing the lever, would I back the adjustment screw out a tad more? or in? I gave it 1/2 turn out after feeling slight contact. Cable was backed way off.

did you slack off the clutch cable completely before adjusting the clutch?

sometimes when your not used to it , it can be hard to discern when you first make contact with the rod assebly and alot of us screw the rod adjuster in too far that way. Try backing off the adjuster and feel for th the very beginning of resistance. you should then find the adjustment will come back to where you began when you initially did the adjustment. Also make sure the above comments are true and complied with.

Most of the times, you need to lever clutch and screw adjustment about 1 turn in past zero clearance to deburr thread and then lever and find zero clearance and then back off. If you did get the back off correct, you simple have too much free play in cable. If all you are doing is a clutch check and its close from the last adjustment, as long as you have some free play in cable, you really do not even need to back it off at the cable. Keep the cable free play to a minimum at the tightest turn position.

I had a similar question/issue when I adjusted my clutch. It simply seems that there is very little 'choice' in determining where one would like to have position of the clutch lever when the clutch begins to engage (i.e. "at the top"). The clutch cable adjustment only lengthens or shortens the clutch cable to take up slack and this adjustment has no effect on the position of the lever when the clutch engages. I think this is because there is no adjustment mechanism at the lever itself.

Thanks for the responses...

Bike was cold. Plenty of slack in the cable.

Think I'll pop off the cover and re-check it. Thanks again.
