If it's wrong, as in too high, could that have an effect on the way she runs?

That is more likely to be a dirty or defective float needle, which overfills the float chamber by not shutting the gas off. If you haven't serviced your carb in a long time, it is worth considering getting a rebuild kit, which will include all the perishable stuff such as gaskets and float needle.

Ah! I just spent the last two weeks on your side of the Atlantic and am a bit jet lagged!

There is no good reason why the float level should have changed, but if either high or low then bike running will be affected. If gas is coming out of the overflow, then the float needle isn't shutting off the gas, as it should.

There is something of an art to setting the float level. Especially if someone is not accustomed to doing it. I have had the carb overflow a couple times and found a nick on the needles rubber tip both times. Took a small dowel rod shaped like the needle and some fine valve grinding compound and worked on the seat. Never did see a problem with the seat but figured it had to be something the second time. So far so good Knock on Wood

Dang Ok this was on a Keilin (sorry bout spelling) CV carb Ahh just remember to to ck the needle and seat real closely

Have a good 1 TD WP
