Got to do a little work on the bike today. I have been waiting on parts. Got the horn and cowbell cover mounted. Looks great! I dug through my bolt bin and even found an acorn nut that fit the threads. I mounted the mirrors I ordered also. I love the blue glass that should hopefully help with headlight glare. Then I removed the ignition cover, removed the ignition, and removed the rotor since I have to change it to a carb one. I used my Dremel to knock the heads off of the rivets and then used a punch and my vise to pop them out after taking the outer cover off. That ignition was toast and melted to heck. That dang mess is sticky as heck. I put the two covers and such back on so I don’t misplace them. I will be getting a custom outer cover. I even found two 8-32 3/4” long screws that will work perfect. That’s pretty much all I can do for now until I free up some more funds and order more stuff. Anyone have any tips on getting the neutral switch out of the transmission without removing the oil tank?

Question, this motor came from a FLHTI. There is a gasket behind the inner timer cover in front of the ignition itself. It is shown in the parts manual and says it is for all touring models, not just the fuel injected ones. There is not one shown in the softail manual. Why is it in one and not the other? Is it required? I saved it and it is in excellent shape so I was planning on reusing it if required.

Anyone can answer the question above?

Still making progress as money frees up. Today, I put the forward controls, some OEM NOS head bolt covers I found on eBay, new NGK spark plugs, and jiffy stand on. Still need a shift linkage and rear brake line setup. I need to measure for the brake line, but I am unsure where the fitting that holds the brake switch goes so I know where to measure from. Can someone show me a picture of where the fitting goes on a late 90's FXST or other FX (no boards) softail? I have learned to celebrate the small victories when doing something as time consuming as putting a bike together. So, milestone for today was it was the first time the bike has been off of the lift and on its own tires and jiffy stand. I even sat on it with no seat and make vroom vroom noises! Hahaha! Hope y'all are still enjoying. I got tomorrow to get the rest of the stuff so my buddy can paint the tins.

On the gasket in the timing cover I removed all the metal plates everything to help dissipate heat out of the nose cone.. I don't use mine on my Softail..

as for the rear brake line and brake switch block, they're supported by the bracket on the Block that attaches to the transmission you will need a spacer from the trap door and proper length Bolt as shown in the picture below..

I had to replace my rear brake line because of a puncture so the unit you're looking at is aftermarket but it still goes in the same place.

Thank-you so much!!! I knew something went in those threaded holes on the transmission and could not figure it out. I am ordering a custom line from magnum shielding, so now I can give them the measurements.

Post Rear Brake Lines...

I went with Magnum as well. These are the lines i used:
.
Master cylinder side 90°3/8"BLK - 15 5/8"Long
Caliper side 35°3/8"BLK - 19" Long
.

I have a PM caliper, so you should be good with referring to my front length. You'll have to look closer at the rear line length / config.

I also found a black universal brake line tee from Parts Giant (plenty of chrome out there but the black one was tougher to hunt down).

Here's the brake switch / line tee on my '99:

I dealt with Heather at Magnum - she was great to work with. They offer a veteran discount - ask for it if applicable.

Good luck!

I will definitely ask. That discount applies to me.

Just got off the phone with Heather and she was extremely helpful and pleasant to talk to. My new line should be here next week hopefully. Mine ended up being 31.5" from the master cylinder to the tee with the brake switch (master cylinder connection is on the front of the master cylinder). From there to the caliper is stock HD since my bike is using a stock swingarm and caliper. Got my Veteran's discount also. Thanks for the help!
