Help Please - Unique Dyna Exhaust Question
New member, long time rider however. I have a need to hear from experts on an unique Dyna Exhaust situation I have for my wife's bike, 2014 StreetBob.
Background: First and very key, is she has forward controls and the half moon floorbds on this bike, not very common to have both (although switchback does). We have Rinehart's 2-2 on it now which happen to fit this config. Her priorities here, are #1 Looks, #2 Sound, she's not performance concerned. And she wants the pipes wrapped for the look, that is firm.
Problem statement: She wants the old school bobber look and we had the HS removed and wrapped the pipes. End result look great, however the heat at the inner legs and calf is really unbearable - even to me (guy) its truly bad.
Current thoughts: Money is something to consider but resolving this heat, while retaining the sound & look is my challenge. There will be a higher cost in resolving, I know this. I do want her to get what she wants as we are both over 50 yrs old. So at the moment I am looking to resolve vs. be cheap.
Options as I see them or know them and seek this forum's help...
a) Put the HS back on and re-wrap the assembly - wont look good
b) Get custom head pipes made that route the pipes away from her legs and change up the exhaust to something longer out the back (thinking Thunderheader Slip ons).
c) Get whatever we choose ceramic coated, then wrapped to help resolve heat issue.
Forum Question(s): anyone have similar issue, and with this odd configuration what did you use? Am thinking the stock switchback head pipes could be used based on this Flrbd configuration, although I do not have that confirmed & my local HD guys says " it sounds right"... would add the Thunderheader Slips on, so a complete change. I just don't if the Switchback stock will work? If someone knows this as fact it will help make our play. I would then still do the ceramic coating and wrapping or does anyone have a solution to the way excessive heat problem?
Note we did have it back on the Dyno with current set-up to make sure it wasn't running too rich - its not. She has only 1500 miles on it too.
We have tried the Thunderheader pipes direct from them and they didn't fit, so that was a no go (issues was with the bends & angles & routing with her floor bds), so I believe I am either in the custom pipe world or getting creative using as much HD stock as possible - with coating, etc...
Sorry for long thread but I am struggling finding an answer or from lack of resources to ask, hence my request to this forum.
Thanks,
Jon B
