That's when you need to be more focused on the ride instead of the radio.
Listening to the radio, even on short rides, is a recipe for a very unwanted event.......
Pay attention to the road......you can pay attention to the radio when you get to wherever you're going.
It's suppose to be about the ride, NOT the radio.

I am a very highly trained motorcyclist, I have enough natural ability to listen to the radio and ride at the same time, but thanks for your concern.
I ended up putting a set of CVO take off mufflers on my 03 ultra. They ended up being a touch louder that stock, but they had a nice low rumble to them. They are by no means obnoxious and do not make my ears ring after a long ride. I can still have a conversation with my wife and hear the radio as well. Several people in our group actually comment that they like to ride behind us so they do not have to listen every ones loud mufflers. I have an extra set of cvo take offs laying around if anyone is interested. Great for a Fullsac recore.

Supertrapp or E series are adjustable for sound & flow. i believe it was 2009 or 2010 that they put the cats in the head pipes and allowed the mufflers to flow a little better, and increased sound. So if you are looking for a quieter muffler, stock type, keep that in mind. Newer cvo mufflers are really quiet and restrictive.
I wear them and they work as advertised. I can hear the radio and use the intercom to talk to the wife but I'm not ringing, any more than I usually do from my tinnitus, at the end of the day.
I've also switched to Khrome Werks 3.5" HP-Plus mufflers and they sound great without being too loud or raspy
