Default Programer vs. dyna

Hello all, I'm new to bike ownership, so forgive what might seem like dumb questions. First question is what is the difference of putting a programer on a bike after new exhaust and cam work vs. having it put up on a dyna? Pros vs. Cons?

When it comes to aftermarket tuners, usually someone has taken a specific model of bike, a specific model of pipe and did Dyno testing to determine what was a good fuel map for that particular setup. So the tuners comes preloaded with these canned maps for fuel air ratios. The benefit to not using the canned map from an aftermarket tuner and having someone dyno your bike with said tuner is to create a custom fuel map that best matches your specific setup. Canned maps are for those who do not want to spend the extra money for a proper dyno tune. But if you spend all that money on performance parts, then you are cheating yourself by not going the final step and having it properly dyno tuned.
So the bikes that get dyno tuned are also running a aftermarket tuner for fuel management, just they create and use their own custom fuel map instead of one preloaded on a tuner.

Hope that helps...

Can you quantify what the difference in performance would be? Are we talking a couple, few horsepower or something more significant. What scarred me off of getting it dyno'd was the shop I was talking too started eluding to up to 12 hours of labor to build a map for a set of Magnaflow pipes. The shop I'm talking with now does not have a dyne and recommends going with a programer. Its not like I'm racing this bike, Im just looking for a deeper sound and more power than my 96 ci has. BTW, I have a 2011 Fat Boy lo and am thinking of going with a set of Supertrapp Phantom 2 into 1 pipes.

Well that can come down to how good the guy doing the dyno work and tweaking is. 12 hours sounds like a bit much to me. Unless your racing at the track, just use a map preloaded on a tuner. Also you could talk to FuelMoto. They can hook you up with a good map and a tuner. They really know their stuff.
