I have read about others having problems with heat problems and surging on the '07 96 cu. in. engines. Mine has been in the shop twice now for an engine knock. The first time it sounded like the front cylinder wrist pin. The dealer said HD told them to change out the ECM. Well, that didn't help and it is in the shop now for the second time. They are waiting for HD to decide what is wrong. Anyone else having this problem? I have always run premium gas with less than 10% ethanol. The bike only has 880 miles on it.

New update- The dealer and HD MoCo have decided to change the cams out. Both of them. We will se if this makes a difference.
I have an 04 EGC that seems to have a knock at idle when hot and it seems to be on the right side of the engine, what could this be ? it also seems to disappear above idle.
Latus had an engine knock awhile ago that SERT tuning couldnt remove.Hd quickly took that engine off his hands before he coulddig into any further. Was told it was defective engine cases.Usually if there is one, others have also snuck thru the watchful eye of HD.
The hottest the weather was 80* F. I was on a ride of about 60 miles and the engine started knocking when you let off of the throttle. The engine idles fine and does not knock unless you rev it up. When you are going through the gears and let off the throttle it will knock badly.
Mine sounds good at warm up and at idle. It only knocks when you let off of the throttle after acceleration or say in between gears you can let off and hold it steady and it sounds like the front rod is going to come out. It sounds like a wrist pin. It is way too lound for a lifter noise. Let me put it this way- My wife was on the left side of me listening through the passenger window in my truck and could hear it. She was driving the truck. She is not mechanically inclined but can hear an unusual noise.
I have talked to the dealership and they are working with techs at HD. Their next step is to change out both cams. Don't know if they will have it done by the time I go back to work. Overseas
