I have the D&D Fatcat 2-1 exhaust on my 2007 Street Glide. The main clamp for the exhaust pipe will not tighten. I have rigged a fix but the pipe is still loose. D&D suggested rotating the clamp 180 degrees and tightening. This did not work. Anyone else have this problem? Got any suggestions as to what clamp would work better? Thanks to all who respond.
Are you talking about the clamp that is used to fasten the baffle section to the collector?
If so, they recently change the clamp style and it hasa wider band than the slits in the tube that squeezes down onto the collector. Take the baffle/muffler can off and use a hacksaw to lengthen the slits just a bit. BE CAREFUL not to splinter the chrome. Saw from outside -> inward and try to avoid pulling back out with the teeth in the groove and you should be able to prevent any chrome issues.
Put a ratchet on the thing and tighten the snot out of it. It is an aircraft quality clamp and it can take the pressure. You will be surprised at how tight you need to get that clamp before the muffler stops moving.
I torqued it down and wrung three screws in half. It did not strip the clamp. Bought new screws. D&D suggested rotating it 180 degrees after removing the heat sheild. to help squeeze all the way around. Nothing has worked so far.
Not trying to hijack this post .Would this clamping problem create decel popping issue ? I recently got D&D Fat cats installed on my 103 07 Nightrain just got it dyno tuned by a really good tech he tuned it with a sert .Thinking that the decel popping was a tuneing issue .Now Im thinking its my pipes leaking would that clamp if not torqued properly create a popping issue.
Not likely Dwane. What they are seeing is the whole "megaphone can" trying to walk or slide off the collector. If you've recently been tuned, I'm betting it's just a tweak in the 0% throttle area.
