Default DIY tapered muffler baffles

I couldn't stand the sound of my Pro Pipe anymore, so I put the stock pipes back on. That didn't cut it and I didn't want to spend $300+ for mufflers I might not like so I took a 1 3/4" hole saw and gutted the mufflers. Not the sound I was looking for either. What I ended up doing is going to a muffler shop and had them cut 2 pieces of 1 1/2"" tubing 16" long and expand each end to 1 3/4". Then I cut a 1 1/4" X 2 1/2" U out and bent it down as a deflector. I drilled 99 3/16" holes in the baffles. These have a nice deep sound at idle and are quiet going down the road. I did end up driving a screwdriver in and opened up the flap about 1/4" just to get a little more sound. And, I can always open the baffle up or close it back down. Total investment $20 to muffler shop and probably 2 hrs. time. It's worth a shot if you're just looking for a little more tone. It seems to help performance as well.

does it matter which way the angle cut with the flap is facing? to the front of the bike or or back. i might try this on my baffles i had to have installed to pass state inspection. i have drag pipes on my bike.

Flap goes towards the front. I think there are a few companies that already make baffles for drag pipes.

thanks. the baffles they installed are coming into it, when you get after it but not so much just cruising or idle. think ill try this before cutting the baffles in half. at idle it makes a weird whooshing sound.

there are many ways to make baffles. the perf tube and redirection is restrictive. i prefer flow through and change of direction. the flow through is less restrictive and the change of direction fights reversion.

im going to pull the baffles out, in the next coupe days and i will take some pics of what is in there. i would like some ideas on what to do with them. besides not put them back in. i will take a ride with straight drag pipes, haven't been able to do that since i bought the bike this summer.
