Hi was wondering 1340 evo, bike is running great but sometimes when i turn off sounds like engine runs for a few seconds.Anyone have any ideas?Carb?bad gas maybe? Thanks
"Dieseling" is normally the result of carbon buildup in the cylinder head. The carbon deposits build up enough heat to fire the fuel and cause the "run on" you describe. Running too rich or bad fuel can cause this to happen. If it is only once in a while it may be fuel related, if it happens regularly its carbon deposits. Check your plugs for fouling, the tune of your carb, possible intake leak(not real likely). Try to get some good 93 octane and run it pretty hard for about 50 mi.and check the plugs again. If that doesn't clean things up you may have worn rings or valve guides. Last resort would be pull the heads and give them a good cleanup, do new rings and grindvalvesat the same time. Good luck.
having the exact same problem but it is a little more regular. Maybe every 4th ride or so. Checked for intake leaks, plugs are a little lighter than milk chocolate. Gap is correct. I bought the bike with a mild cam, thunder headers and a thunder kit in the carb. have no idea about the numbers on the cam. Has a Crane Hi 4 ignition. I was told to check for carbon also, Yea, I do have some but it is not real thick, can still see the checker pattern on the piston heads through the light carbon. I was told it may be a timing issue, and that timing being retarded to much could be causing this.
Was also told the oldschool way they used to clean up carbon was a spray bottle of water. getting the bike good and warmed up, removing the air cleaner and giving a couple squirts of water mist into the air intake while slightly revving. Don't know how advisable or not this is, and not real sure about the timing issue either so some expert advice would be much appreciated.
