Stock mufflers

What are the downsides of replacing the stock mufflers with straight pipes on a 2023 M8 Softail?

At ther very least, you will find it difficult to tune or address runability issues with straights on it. And if you are taling about straights from the head back, then there may be a problem with the oxy sensors as well.

Speaking as someone who ran straight pipes on Evos (like everybody else back in the 80’s) , I wouldn’t do it.

You won’t like how it sounds and you won’t like how it runs. I don’t think I have ever even seen an M-8 running drag pipes.

If you just want to make loud noises and don't care about how the bike runs, do it. A good compromise would be aftermarket mufflers that are louder but will probably work better.
