Hi Guys, I got an 04 FXSTDi with V&H pipesand stage 1 installed. Didn't do anything new to the bike except it got really hot coming home on one of those 100+ days. Soon after I developed a little occasional miss. It usually happens in 5th gear if I am barely on the throttle 50 to 55 mph but has happened in other gears at other speeds similar low RPM's. The bike also used tostart right up and now it takes several tries holding down the starter. It is worst when cold. There is also a loud hissing noise that sounds for all the world like it is coming from the front engine head that I think started about the same time. It goes away when the bike pitches forward, front shocks compress. The hiss is there at idol intermittently.
I pulled the dash and lifted the plate on the tank enough to see that there are no leaks in the fuel pump or pressure regulator. Checked all the hoses I could find for a leak and it all seems ok. Fluids are all full and changed regularly.
Anyone have any thoughts before I turn it over to the shop? I hate to take it in with it running for the most part ok and no idea what might be wrong with it. Thanks.
I had that hissing sound after I put my last pipes on, I had a small exhaust leak! loose your pipes and retorque them more evenly. It should go away.
Do you have any fuel control? Power commander, thundermax? you will neet some extra fuel to compensate for the mods!
you may be dangerously lean right now!
The pipes and stage 1 were done by the PO andlocal dealership.I have beenshopping around for a power commander butthe bike seemed to be running great so I really wasn't in a hurry.I recently read here the stage 1 download may not be the best though. I've put ~13,000 miles on since Igot it last November with no problems till this.
Good idea on the pipes, I will check them tonight and see if that gets it. Thanks!
It isthere as soon as the engine is running. I had a chance to check for an exhaust leak and I don't think that is it. At least not at the head. It is still starting hard and running a little rough. I thought air leak too but I thought it was weird that thenoise would go away when the front shocks compressed. It sounds like it is coming from under the tank right at the front. I will have some time to get into it this weekend and hopefully figure it out.
