I have a 02 RK with 95" and stock heads. HQ 034 cam with VH slip ons. Would like to increase compression a bit to boost HP and TQ. Assuming the heads are 85cc which I think is stock, how much can you mill from head without worring about valve to piston contract. This has the flat top piston with 9.25 comp. I would like to increase to 10.25-1. on compression giving me somewhere in the 200-210 ccp. I should have gone with differnt pistons, now I'm stuck with what I Have.
Is the bike together or apart? If together I would check with solder through the spark plug hole before tear down. You will have to remove a substantial amount to get to 10.25 so it needs to be checked one way or the other.[/align]
There really is no assuming when it comes to chamber volume..............the stock castings have a lot of variance to them. The only way to know for sure is to have them CC'ed and then mill them for the desired CR............that means they have to be removed from the bike.
Harley hog,
With a .030 head gasket you need to take .050 off (about 81.5cc's) for a 10.5 to one. Make sure that you end up with the same CC's in both heads or it wil make the bike vibrate more and lose some power. Flat top pistons with a smaller combustion chamber usually make more power as long as the valves are not shrouded.
