Engine cough?
I am a new member, and a new owner of a Harley. I have never owned one before, and just got an '03 Dyna Lowrider. It has about 7000 miles. I notice about once every ride or so, the engine will miss, or cough so to speak. It will do this, and then it might not do it again the rest of the day. I notice it whether it is hot or cold. Other than this, it runs great. Someone told me not to worry, that this is fairly common with these. If that is the case, then great. Any help would be appreciated.
It's probably your carb that coughing not your engine. It is due to a lean condition & will tend to be more frequent at lower temps. Try adjusting your fuel idle/mixture screw out a little (1/4 - 1/2 turn) on your carb. This should help at off idle & low speeds if that is the issue.
Azgunner is right if it's doing this just off idle. It is common, but relatively easy to fix. I believe there is some info in the DIY forum about doing this. There's a cover over the idle mixture screw that needs to come off before you can adjust it.
Thanks for the replies. It is doing this off of an idle position. I am not mechanically inclined, but will search the section you mentioned to see if I can find how to fix. It sounds easy enough.
