I have an 08' Softtail Custom. Out of the dealer I had Reinhart 2-into-2 Staggered pipes, High-flow Breather, and a Power Commander installed. They dyno'd it, and I've now about 2500 miles on it, and on average am only getting 30 MPG. All my "crew" I ride with, on a mix of Night Trains, a Road King, and so forth are all gettting at LEAST 40MPG (even up to 50+).
My brother-in-law says he thinks it is running rich, and can smell the "raw fuel" from behind me, coming out the exhaust. As well, there is a "wet", black soot at my exhaust tips. So, SEEMS to be running rich. I left it at the dealer (Alamo HD), and they say the are going to lean it out to correct this.
My question is: is that all that is likely wrong? Will leaning the EFI make THAT much of a difference, to add 10+ MPG to my scoot? Is there any risk in this?It would seem to me that with the Power Commander, mapping, and running it on a Dyno, the mileage should have been better out of the box.
Any observations/experiences with this are appriciated...
