Pushrod issues bent or incorrectly placed - damage?
It is a 2002 883 XL Sportster.
If I got the inlet and exhaust pushrods swopped would this cause damage and rough running?
Can I correct my mistake and just swop them back?
Due to not putting the rear cylinder at TDC would this lead to a bent pushrod or valve?? The exhaust valve was full open when I replaced the rocker assembly. There is no compression in the rocker cover so the valves areclosing fine. There isn't any smoking either.
Remember that the timing etc.. was not touched. Only the gaskets replaced.
I had to remove the pushrods to remove the rocker assembly.
I am after some real replies folks. I am in South Africa and the parts are hard to come by here. (can wait up to 2 months for parts.)
The motor still runs well but the sound is off. Fires first time etc.... just sounds slightly wrong.
Any help would be appreciated!
You are just going to have to set this thing down and, "with a manual or proper directions,"redo what needs to be done. I don't know with an XL but proper is proper and must be done right. There are issues with the proper way to set and adjust pushrods on most all engines. Find out and do this again.
Breaking things cost you money and also you might break down somewhere inapproiately. Like anywhere except your place.
AlPlenty of sites have things like how to adjust set and adjust pushrods. Check out NRHS Preformance. They work with a lot of XL's

I had the guys from NRHS racing give me some info as well and it appears as meticulous as I was I may have gotten the pushrods turned around anyway.
I will open the motor this weekend and do the checks and swop around if that is the mistake.
These motors are tough and I hope the pushrods being swopped around won't cause damage.
I will post my findings on Monday.
Thanks for your support.
