Default broken exhaust stud

So we're on a Poker Run today and at one of the stops, suddenly when I go to start the scoot up again, it sounds different, louder, "like a Harley" per my wife. Everything else seems okay so we go on to the next stop. I hop off leaving the motor running and sure enough, it is louder directly under the seat. After closer inspection, I can see where the exhaust mount nut used to be and the snapped off stud sitting in the hole of the mounting flange. I'm running the original stock exhaust.
So now I have a couple questions:
1. Is this common or what would cause this?
2. Will the Dealer fix it under warranty?

No, It is not common unless you have overtorqued them. Yes, should be covered under warranty if it is the stock exhaust or one the dealer installed.

No, it won't be covered under warranty if you installed an aftermarket exhaust yourself.

Yeah - I'm running the stock exhaust that was on it when I got it. Kinda' wondering what would cause it. I've got 23K on the clock so it seems odd that it would break now, but I guess it takes a while for the stress to break those off.

I was installing my exhaust this weekend and was getting nervous at 120 in lbs. Nothing broke but ifyours was over torqued at the factory the bolt would over stretch necking it down therefore causing it to be weak at a latter date. You may want to have the dealer change all of them as if they did one they could all be over torqued.
